Integration into SAP

Taxmarc is an SAP certified indirect tax engine (add-on) solution realizing automated indirect tax determination based on real time data for incoming and outgoing invoices.

Taxmarc extends standard SAP’s indirect tax logic to meet a company’s indirect tax reporting obligations. Taxmarc is based on the principle that all indirect tax relevant data is captured within (standard) SAP and it enhances tax functionality in SAP without changing the source code of the SAP system (no core modifications).

  • Standard SAP Our solution is based on the principle that all indirect tax relevant data is captured within (standard) SAP and is SAP certified for both ECC and S/4HANA.
  • Compatible with all SAP versions Our solution is built in its own registered namespace and intergraded in standard SAP through enhancement and BADI’s (no core modifications). It is therefore compatible with all versions of SAP including SAP S4 HANA.
  • Independent embedded engine Indirect tax determination is done within SAP with standard SAP functionality. Taxmarc runs independent from existing (old) developments. There is no need (except US) to communicate with an external tax engine. There is no impact on existing developments because of this ‘Stand-alone’ principal.
  • Data linking Our solution improves data linking in SAP to achieve automated indirect tax determination in multi document business flows in an accurate manner. For example, AP and AR data are linked for the automated indirect tax determination of supply chains exceeding two parties.
  • Data gathering 75% of our agent solution is based on intelligent data gathering within SAP.
  • Core engine Our Core engine also runs in SAP but is a complete stand-alone solution that can be connected to directly from the (same) client system, from other SAP systems in the client’s landscape through RFC or by external systems through webservices.
  • Tax control framework A tax control framework (TCF) at transactional level is embedded for each supply chain transaction. Real time email messages can be sent by the TCF alert function.
  • Navigation With the embedded navigation tool a tax manager does not need SAP knowledge. All relevant data for the complete flow needed to analyze a problem is captured and displayed in one place
  • Integration of non-SAP systems If you also use non-SAP systems in your organizations, these external systems can still connect to the SAP Core through a webservice. This guarantees that your non-SAP systems will follow the same tax rules as your SAP systems.
  • Maintenance / Instruction guide The Taxmarc control panel is the central point to access your day-to-day operational tools. The embedded Taxmarc Implementation Guide contains detailed online documentation for implementation
  • Tax data warehouse / data quality All relevant indirect tax data is (separately) stored in the SAP database owned by you. This provides real-time access to the company’s sales and purchase blueprint.
Integrated Control Framework
Integrated Tax Control Framework

The Taxmarc Tax Control Framework, integrated in SAP checks every single purchase and sales transaction the moment it is entered in SAP automatically and in real time.

It validates compliance with tax laws and alignment with the company’s allowed business scenarios. The tax determination is carried out for the compliant transactions which do not need any additional intervention.

For the non-compliant transactions, a check and decision from the tax department is required. All non-compliant transactions are flagged and blocked. Additional tax specific screens have been added to all SAP transactions which provide all the information a Tax manager needs to make the right decision. No specific SAP knowledge is needed. All parameters and decisions by the tax department are tracked in a special audit trail log to provide full transparency in case of an audit.

Because of real time data management, the quality of your transactional data is ensured. Only compliant purchase and sales transactions are booked in SAP finance. All the attributes used for tax determination, the error messages and statuses are stored in your SAP database and the information is directly accessible via the transaction itself or via reporting. All the information is integrated into the same system and stored and accessible in the SAP database. Since only high-quality data is stored in the SAP database, you can meet the increasing government reporting and filing requirements such as SAF-T, real-time e-invoicing and reporting directly from your SAP system.

Transparant reporting
Transparant tax determination (no black box)

Taxmarc offers a unique Tax data tab for all Sales and Purchase transactions (orders/invoices) for each item.

From this tab, all the major parameters as well as the tax determination details are visualized in one overview for users and tax managers. This screen brings together relevant data from all documents involved in a flow and allows for easy analysis of the tax relevant data, even for a tax manager without detailed SAP knowledge.

Historical tax determination
Smart testing approach

Transactions booked in a customer’s SAP system before implementation of Taxmarc can be run through the Taxmarc engine after installation.

This will significantly decrease the time spent on UAT and regression testing. For example an existing sales or purchase invoice can be used used to execute an indirect tax determination using Taxmarc. The Taxmarc result can be compared with the actual posting. This can reduce a lot of time in creating new test data end to end and it guarantees that all possible business scenarios have been tested. Taxmarc can offer this functionality because it can serve both as an internal (add-on) and external indirect tax engine.

Sap integration
Strong reporting thanks to data quality

Taxmarc is fully integrated in SAP and all the tax information is updated in SAP.

This means that all the standard SAP tax related reports continue to function. For the reporting Taxmarc makes use of standard SAP reports which are optimized when needed and the new Taxmarc fields are integrated for additional clarity.

Thanks to the integrated Tax Control Framework, a 100% first time data accuracy can be achieved. So, the data you will have in your reporting (both SAP standard and Taxmarc specific) will be accurate and reliable and does not need manual correcting during your month end close.

Additionally, Taxmarc offers the Compliance Reporting Solution module which is built and deployed within the SAP environment. This module offers a common reporting platform that is capable of handling SAF-T, SII (real time reporting) and e-invoicing. It enables you to digitally transform and automate your indirect tax compliance reporting by generating correct XML files fully automatically and submitting them in a predefined format to the relevant tax authorities.

Correct tax treatment
Enhanced SAP functionality

The main purpose of the Taxmarc tax engine is to determine the correct indirect tax treatment for any sales and purchase transaction.

The Taxmarc agent complements and enhances the tax functionality of a Standard SAP system. In other words it makes SAP more ‘intelligent’ and fills in the gaps when it comes to indirect tax.

  • It allows you to easily have a separate invoice number range per company and per country the company is registered in (a requirement in some countries).
  • It provides the correct information to print on your sales invoices (company and customer registration number as well as EU VAT texts). This guarantees the invoices you issue are compliant.
  • It makes sure self invoices are generated whenever required and not just for intra EU transactions
  • It contains tools to mass update sales or purchase documents whenever you find you need to change your config settings (I.e. you find a material was classified incorrectly or you forgot to enter a company registration).
  • It provides reports that help you analyze in how many cases the tax code was manually overwritten, causing possible incompliance
  • It includes lots of trouble shooting tools that allow you to analyze tax determination in processes that take place in the background (like IDOC postings).
  • It enhances the sales – purchase tax code mapping (OBCD) during automated IC purchase postings
  • It allows you to classify a material per tax reporting country instead of per plant
  • It guarantees that an order with different reporting countries per line will be split into multiple invoices so you can report it correctly.
Different Sap Systems
Handling of mixed system landscape

Since Taxmarc consists of a Core and an agent, it is possible to install one Core system on any SAP system.

Since Taxmarc consists of a Core and an agent, it is possible to install one Core system on any SAP system within your system landscape and then connect all your other SAP and even non-SAP systems to this same Core system. This way there is ‘one version of the truth’ in your company for indirect tax determination.

Taxmarc Cloud
Cloud solution

The Taxmarc core system can run in the cloud.

If you want to connect your SAP or non-SAP system to the Taxmarc Cloud you don’t need to own or manage a version of the Taxmarc Core. You can connect to it as a service.

But if you have an SAP system you will probably still want to install the SAP agent to benefit from the rich functionality that it provides.
