ECC, S/4HANA & BTP

Three names you'll hear constantly — and knowing which one a company runs tells you a lot.

The one idea

Most large enterprises run SAP, but they're in the middle of a once-in-a-generation migration — from the old ERP (ECC) to the new one (S/4HANA). Any system that touches SAP has to work across both, often in the same group.

The landscape

SAP ECC
The previous-generation ERP, still widely in production. Mainstream maintenance ends around 2027 (extended options to 2030), which is driving the migrations.
S/4HANA
The current generation, built on the in-memory HANA database — faster, a simplified data model. Runs on-premise or in the cloud.
RISE with SAP
SAP's managed private-cloud way of running S/4HANA — same product, SAP-hosted.
SAP BTP
Business Technology Platform — where you build extensions, integrations and apps around SAP.

Why it matters

A tax solution can't assume one world. It has to run on ECC today and carry the same logic into S/4HANA tomorrow — ideally without a re-implementation when the company finally moves.
